Rangers Review writer Jonny McFarlane believes that ‘one or possibly both’ of Alfredo Morelos and Ryan Kent will pen contract extensions.

Gers boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst recently confirmed that the club are in discussions with the star duo over renewed deals, with their current contracts expiring at the end of the forthcoming campaign.

Given the impactful departures of Joe Aribo and Calvin Bassey already this summer, tying down arguably Rangers’ two most influential forward players will surely be of huge significance for the Dutch manager.

Morelos was the club’s top scorer with 19 goals last season while Kent produced 20 assists and McFarlane believes that they will be sticking around – and feels we may soon find out where their futures lie.

Speaking on the Rangers Review YouTube channel, he said: “As far as it stands, I’m pretty confident, I have to say, speaking to people, that at least one – but possibly both – will renew, but you just have to wait and see how things pan out in football.

“I think the club are fairly relaxed for the time being on this issue. Don’t think there’s too many concerns, but perhaps if there are, those will accelerate towards the end of the window if something hasn’t been agreed.

“I think there will be a bit of pressure on internally to get these over the line or to make a decision, because it’s going to be a big decision to be made if they don’t sign.”

TIF Thoughts on Morelos, Kent and Rangers…

Will Alfredo Morelos and Ryan Kent leave Rangers this summer?

Yes

Yes

No

No

With the Light Blues aiming to reclaim the Scottish Premiership title, the club have been busy broadening Van Bronckhorst’s options – particularly in attacking areas, with winger Rabbi Matondo and striker Antonio Colak arriving, as well as No 10s Tom Lawrence and Malik Tillman, with the latter joining on a season-long loan with an option to buy from Bayern Munich in what could yet prove to be a gem of a transfer.

However, given how Morelos’ form prospered under Van Bronckhorst, with 12 of his 16 top-flight and Europa League goals coming during his tenure before being sidelined in March with a thigh injury, and Kent’s consistency in the attacking third – scoring 13 goals and contributing with 15 assists during the 2020/21 campaign before a staggering 20 assists last term – tying down the established stars in the lineup would be the best business Ross Wilson and the recruitment team could do all summer.
