Journalist Pete O’Rourke has claimed that Rangers will be looking to strengthen in the left-back area of the pitch in this summer transfer window.
It was recently announced that Calvin Bassey would leave Scottish Premiership side Rangers to join Dutch giants Ajax in a deal that will see him stay with the club until at least 2027 and the sum that The Gers will receive could rise to around the £23m mark.
Bassey was a mainstay in the Rangers side last season, he made 50 appearances in all competitions, and backup left-back Borna Barisic featured just 24 times in the Scottish Premiership, Giovanni van Bronckhorst might be keen to strengthen that area of the pitch and find someone who can nail down the spot like Bassey did last term.
With Bassey departing for a new challenge at Ajax, O’Rourke told Football FanCast that there are still doubts about the future of Barisic, so Rangers are looking to bring in a new left-back.
He said: “That is a position that Rangers will be looking to strengthen in with Bassey leaving for Ajax and still doubts surrounding the long-term future of Barisic as well.”

TIF Thoughts on O’Rourke’s comments…
Bassey parting ways with Rangers this summer could be seen as a massive loss, but for the profit that they made on him, after signing him for just £230,000, they can use the money they acquired to bring in a replacement and then upgrade other areas of the pitch to bolster the squad ahead of next season.
Rangers have already made six summer signings, but because of the departure of duo Joe Aribo and Calvin Bassey, the club remains in a profit, so Van Bronckhorst might have a busy few weeks from now until the end of the window to get some new talent in the door, especially a left-back with the departure of Bassey.
