Journalist Alex Crook has claimed that Rangers are keen on keeping Calvin Bassey for another season – but he might be tempted to leave.
According to the Daily Mail, several clubs are interested in luring the Rangers defender away from Ibrox this summer, and one of the main clubs who have shown interest are Ajax, who are set to see Lisandro Martinez join Manchester United, with the Dutch giants seeing Bassey as a potential replacement.
Bassey really came into his own last season for Rangers after he made 50 appearances in all competitions for the Scottish side, including 14 in the Europa League as he helped his side reach the final.
With Ajax interested in Bassey this summer, Crook spoke on TalkSport and claimed that the opportunity to play for such a prestigious club might be too much for him to turn down.
He said: “I know Rangers are keen to keep him at least for one more year, but you have to believe the lure of playing in the Champions League and playing for an iconic club like Ajax might be too much for him to turn down. The fee, I am being told, is in the region of between £15-20m with add-ons.
“It wouldn’t surprise me if Calvin Bassey was to replace Martinez at Ajax.”

TIF Thoughts on Crook’s comments…
Bassey still has two years left on his current contract with Rangers, so they might be keen to keep him at the club for one more season and then either attempt to tie him down to a new deal at Ibrox or look to offload him so that he does not leave the club on a free transfer at the end of his deal.
However, it might not be in the club’s hands, because if Ajax come in for him and offer a large fee, as well as regular game time and guaranteed Champions League football for Bassey, it might be difficult for him to say no and stay at Rangers.
