Journalist Joshua Barrie, sometimes seen on Sky Sports, has highlighted that Rangers will be seeking £20m or more for Calvin Bassey.
The Rangers Review writer was speaking on the site’s YouTube channel amid reported interest in the first-team star.
Sky Sports News have claimed that both Ajax and Brighton have held initial talks with the Gers to sound out a potential move for the Nigerian ace and has stated that at least seven sides are tracking the versatile defender with interest emanating from both the Bundesliga and Serie A too.
The same report stated that Ajax head coach Alfred Schreuder had spoken to Bassey and was ‘impressed’ as the Amsterdam club look to replace the Manchester United-bound Lisandro Martinez while the Seagulls may lose Marc Cucurella to Manchester City
There is some suggestion that the Light Blues may seek higher than the all-time Scottish record of £25m that Arsenal paid Celtic for Kieran Tierney and Barrie has reiterated the club’s demands.
(3:57)”From what we understand Ajax and Brighton, both clubs who have a real serious interest in buying Calvin Bassey from Rangers.
“I think it’s important to mention that both Ajax and Brighton are set to sell left-sided kind of centre backs slash left-backs.
“I think the key thing to note is that Rangers won’t entertain bid that aren’t in excess of £20m.
“So I think for supporters that don’t want to lose Bassey getting a substantial fee would certainly soften the blow and when you look at the £300,000 Rangers paid for him just two seasons ago to get north of £20m for him would be really significant.
“The interest is very concrete and that’s kind of moved in the last day. So looks like Calvin Bassey will be the subject of s a serious bid with some serious money behind it and it will be interesting to kind of see what happens from here.”
TIF Thoughts on Bassey and Rangers…
Would you be happy with £20 million for Bassey?YesNo |
Journalist Jonny McFarlane previously said on the Rangers Review YouTube channel (9:54) that it is part of the club’s business model to sell their best assets and given that Bassey’s departure will most likely smash the current transfer record fee received by the Teddy Bears, which stands at £16m, it could make for some serious reinvestment in the side
It could fund a major reshuffle at the Light Blues with first-team stars Ryan Kent and Alfredo Morelos in the final year of their contracts meaning attacking reinforcements will be needed sooner rather than later.
Joe Aribo has also left for ventures new and while the club have swooped to bring in Antonio Colak, Rabbi Matondo and Tom Lawrence over the past fortnight, Giovanni van Bronckhorst could now further enhance his squad ahead of crucial Champions League qualifiers.
