Celtic are looking to strengthen their midfield ahead of the upcoming Scottish Premiership campaign, amid links to a loan move for Manchester City’s Claudio Gomes.

That is according to journalist Pete O’Rourke, who was speaking to This is Futbol about the Scottish champions’ potential transfer plans this summer.

There had been reports of Celtic making a potential play to City for the loan of Gomes, however these reports are thought to be wide of the mark for now, according to Football.Scotland.

Journalist Mark Hendry has also shut down the move, saying “this link made a bit of sense considering City Football Group, but not on the cards.”

However, O’Rourke believes that you could see a deal for Gomes taking place with City wanting the midfielder to play regular football, whilst Ange Postecoglou’s side are crying out for a player in this position.

“A potential transfer is something that you could see happening with Gomes.

“It’s a position that Celtic are looking to strengthen before the close of the transfer window.

“It could suit both parties as Celtic get a good player, while Manchester City sent someone out on loan to get first in football.”

TIF Thoughts on O’Rourke’s comments

We believe Celtic fans will be happy to hear O’Rourke’s comments, as it suggests that the club are searching for a midfielder, whether it be Gomes or not.

The club are desperate for reinforcements in the middle of the park, though they have already made the key signing of Aaron Mooy this summer.

However, the club could do with at least one more addition in the middle of the park, with Tom Rogic and Nir Bitton both leaving the Scottish champions this summer, and we believe if a young talent like Gomes was available, the club should be doing everything they can to snap him up.
