Celtic centre-back Christopher Jullien has been informed that he will not be a regular in Ange Postecoglou’s team this season.

That is according to Pete O’Rourke who was speaking to This is Futbol about the Scottish champions’ transfer plans this summer.

Jullien was poised for a move to Bundesliga side Schalke earlier in the summer, but injury meant that the move collapsed, with the 29-year-old remaining at Parkhead for the time being.

Meanwhile, reports in Germany actually suggested that a medical had been completed, but the player and club could not agree on personal terms which was why the move broke down.

And O’Rourke believes that the centre-back has been informed by the club that he is unlikely to feature on a regular basis in Postecoglou’s team, and it therefore might be best for both parties to go their separate ways.

“I think Christopher Jullien has been informed that he’s not going to be a regular in Postecoglou’s team, so maybe it’s best for all parties if they move on here.”

TIF Thoughts on O’Rourke’s comments

We don’t believe that Celtic fans will be too upset or surprised about O’Rourke’s update, especially given the fact that the Frenchman played just 16 minutes in one game for the club last season, according to Transfermarkt.

And with Salary Sport suggesting that Jullien earns approximately £20k-per-week at Celtic Park, it might be in the best interests of the club to find him a move away from Parkhead, rather than the defender stacking up the wage bill ahead of the new campaign.

This is clearly a training ground and attitude issue as the guy appears to be a good player. Most Celtic supporters would be of the opinion that he is better than Welsh. I think Welsh is OK but Ange seems to rate Welsh. Therefore I would trust Ange But maybe it is personal or one of these managerial blindspots, simply having favourites. Who knows?
