Celtic are now in talks to bring Australian midfielder Aaron Mooy to Parkhead this summer, according to Dharmesh Sheth.

The Sky Sports reporter was discussing the potential incoming of Ange Postecoglou’s fellow countryman on the latest episode of the Transfer Talk podcast.

Mooy has become a free agent after cutting ties with Chinese Super League outfit Shanghai Port earlier this year as he aims to find some first-team football ahead of the World Cup in Qatar.

It has been a difficult start to the year for the midfielder, who has not played any competitive football since January after leaving the Chinese side amid ongoing pandemic restrictions.

Now, it seems as if the Bhoys are edging closer to adding their sixth signing of the summer in the former Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder.

Sheth said: “No surprise this one, because Celtic [are] in talks to sign the former Huddersfield midfielder. Discussions said to be progressing well. Mooy also held talks with Norwich, Middlesbrough and Swansea. Ange Postecoglou will know him very well from his time at Australia.”

TIF Thoughts on Sheth’s comments…

Postecoglou’s recruitment has been exceptional since arriving in Glasgow with the signings of multiple players from a number of different leagues.

Will Mooy be a good addition?

With the departures of Nir Bitton and Tom Rogic, the Hoops were in need of a central midfielder who could help bolster their options, and in Mooy, they will certainly have a versatile midfielder.

The Australian has racked up plenty of experience across a number of leagues, including the English Premier League, which is why we think Mooy could slot straight in at Parkhead this season.
