Wolverhampton Wanderers may have to consider a move for Bosnia and Herzegovina striker Edin Džeko this summer.

That is according to Pete O’Rourke who was speaking to This is Futbol about the club’s potential transfer business ahead of August’s Premier League kick-off.

Bruno Lage’s side have made just one senior summer signing so far, with the addition of Burnley and Republic of Ireland centre-back Nathan Collins for £20.5m.

The club were already short in the striker department, having loaned Fábio Silva to Anderlecht earlier this month.

However, things have taken a turn for the worse, with the club’s only fit striker Raúl Jiménez suffering a knee injury which could rule the Mexican out of action for at least a month.

This leaves the club with zero fit out-and-out strikers with Premier League season due to kick-off in a week’s time, and O’Rourke believes the club could turn to former Manchester City star Edin Džeko.

“It’s going be an interesting one regarding Džeko.

“Obviously, he’s got Premier League pedigree from his time at Manchester City.

“He was a top player and helped City win a couple of Premier League titles.

“It just seems like he’s not going to feature so much for Inter Milan this season now that Romelu Lukaku has gone back there.

“Obviously, his age would probably be a concern, he’s not getting any younger.

“We know how good he is as a striker and he’s got a good goal scoring record wherever he’s played as well.

“I do think bringing in a new forward is something that Wolves really need to do this summer to improve the goal scoring ratio.”

TIF Thoughts on O’Rourke’s comments

We believe that Wolves fans will have mixed feelings about the potential signing of Džeko, with supporters of the club already growing frustrated regarding the lack of transfers this season.

The 124-time Bosnia international provided a decent goal scoring return for Inter Milan last season, scoring 17 goals and providing ten assists in 49 games for the Italian giants, according to Transfermarkt.

However, at the age of 36, you would suspect that Wolves fans would be hoping for some younger blood in the front line, and therefore are likely to dismiss this potential transfer.
