Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth has claimed on the Transfer Talk podcast that West Ham could well make their interest in Gianluca Scamacca ‘formal’.

A striker alongside is left-back is seemingly at the top of the shopping list for the Hammers for the remainder of the transfer window and they appear to have turned their attention to Sassuolo striker Scamacca to fil the void at the top end of the pitch.

ExWHUemployee recently shared on The West Ham Way Patreon page that links being made to the 23-year-old were indeed ‘100% true’.

Arsenal and PSG had both been credited with an affection for the Italian earlier this summer however, with the Gunners signing Gabriel Jesus and the French giants not willing to meet the required asking price of €50m (£42.3m) it could leave a clear pathway for the Irons and Sheth believes there is a strong chance the east Londoners follow up on their notion in the centre-forward.

He said (23:41): “This is a really interesting one because this is a player that has been a wanted man throughout Europe, actually, and they’re in talks with Sassuolo over the signing of Gianluca Scamacca.

“Now, this one would be a big one because PSG, as it stands, were interested but they don’t want to meet the asking price.

“No official bid from West Ham United as it stands. This could change, of course, but they are expected to make that interest more formal with Sassuolo.”

West Ham United fans, who were these players sold to? Starting with Felipe Anderson

Yet to replace Sebastien Haller since his exit in January 2021, bringing in a striker is pivotal to the Hammers’ chances of success this term you feel.

The continued reliance on sole senior striker Michail Antonio’s ability drastically affected his output with the Jamaica international managing just five goals since the turn of the year.

After a breakout season for Scamacca in which he netted 16 Serie A goals in 36 appearances averaging one every 135 minutes he could well sort David Moyes’ problem going forward.

He earned his full international debut last September and has gone on to earn six caps for Italy being described as “brilliant” for his link-up play by former Arsenal and Everton frontman Kevin Campbell.

At just under 6ft 5in, he has been compared to Zlatan Ibrahimovic due to his goalscoring prowess and size, but he insisted that he has his own style of playing and that could well be worth getting to know at the London Stadium.
