Insider ExWHUemployee has revealed that ‘forgotten man’ Goncalo Cardoso is likely to be sold by West Ham United.

The club’s U21 side recently played their first pre-season fixture of the season away to Sporting, ultimately losing 2-1 in Portugal.

Cardoso happened to start that game, but it looks as though he may not be featuring in the claret and blue of West Ham many more times if this latest claim is to be believed.

Indeed, while updating The West Ham Way Patreon page, Ex explained that the Hammers will look to sell the 21-year-old this summer if possible.

He wrote: “The development squad plays its first pre-season game today against Sporting CP’s B team today and the team has been announced.

“In that team, forgotten man Goncalo Cardoso starts. The Portuguese centre-back was signed from Boavista in his native land. The Under-20s international had been on loan at Real Betis’ B team last season, making 10 league appearances for the Spanish club; prior to that, he had been on loan at Swiss side Basel. It is understood that he doesn’t have a future at the club and West Ham will actively look to sell the player.”

TIF Thoughts on Goncalo Cardoso and West Ham…

Cardoso joined West Ham back in 2019 for a reported fee of £2.7m. However, since then, he has spent most of his time loaned away from the club – playing for the likes of Basel and most recently Real Betis’ development side (via Transfermarkt).

With that in mind, it’s no shock to hear Ex refer to him as a ‘forgotten man’ and this is only further backed up by the fact that he is still yet to make his senior debut for the Irons.

Still only 21 years of age, the Portuguese national looks to have the bulk of his career ahead of him. But judging from the latest comments, not a lot more will be spent with the Hammers.
