ExWHUemployee has revealed that West Ham United may try to sign Maxwel Cornet if they can’t finalise a deal for Filip Kostic.

At this moment in time, the left-sided Eintracht Frankfurt player seems to be a key target for the Hammers, but the deal could be complicated due to a possible frosty relationship between the chairmen at each club.

With that in mind, a possible transfer may eventually fall through, leaving West Ham still seeking other targets to fill that role in their team for the upcoming Premier League season.

Cornet of Burnley is said to be an alternative option the Irons may ‘explore’ should they be forced back into the market.

While posting an update on The West Ham Way Patreon page, Ex explained: “Should this [Kostic] deal not progress, which at this stage the hope still remains that it will, the club could explore the signing of Maxwel Cornet of Burnley.”

As Ex says, there is still hope that the Kostic deal can get over the line. Even so, fans may be glad to hear that West Ham have a backup lined up should their main transfer aim fail.

And Cornet, who is said to be available for a ‘bargain‘ fee, could be a decent option for the Hammers thanks to his Premier League experience. Indeed, last season he played 26 times in the division for Burnley, scoring nine goals.

Taking that into account, in theory at least, the winger would be able to adapt to his new club quickly – which may well come in handy as the Irons may only turn to him at the last moment if they can’t pull off a move for Kostic.
