West Ham United: Journalist gives fresh update on Aguerd injury

|

Journalist Paul Brown has claimed that West Ham United are expecting Nayef Aguerd to be an important player at the club next season amid his current injury scare.

West Ham signed Aguerd this summer from Stade Rennais for £31.5m and he put pen to paper on a deal that will keep him at the club until at least 2027.

However, the Hammers recently played in a pre-season friendly and the Moroccan was forced off after 23 minutes. When David Moyes was questioned, he responded saying: “We’ve already had Nayef x-rayed and there’s no break in his ankle, which is good news.”

With West Ham splashing the cash on the defender, Brown spoke to GiveMeSport and claimed that it would be a big blow if he was unable to start in the first game of the season, saying:

“He’s had a scan and they’re still waiting to see, as I understand, but there’s no indication for the timescale.

“That would obviously be a big blow if he was unable to start the season because they’ve put a lot of stock into him and they’re expecting him to be quite an important player for the club, so they wouldn’t want him to be out for too long.”

TIF Thoughts on Brown’s comments…

The Hammers have made three signings this summer, but with Alphonse Areola already being at the club on loan last season, Moyes has introduced just two new faces to his squad this summer, and as there is now doubt over whether Aguerd will be sidelined for the opening fixture, this could turn the Scottish manager’s hand and convince him to add more players to the squad.

However, it remains unclear as to how serious the injury for the defender actually is, so hopefully, for those at the club it will be nothing major and he can re-join the group for the remainder of the season and be fully fit for the opening Premier League fixture.
