West Ham United are confident in signing Lille midfielder Amadou Onana this summer as the club look to get more business done, according to TalkSport’s Alex Crook.

The Hammers are still in the running to sign Onana after an initial £25m bid was rejected by the Ligue 1 club, and it is reported they are currently waiting on a response to their new £32.5m offer.

While they are still waiting on a response for the midfielder, Crook believes they are confident they will get the deal done – and that this is just the latest transfer of a summer of big business from the east London club.

Amid talk of the Hammers also bringing in Armando Broja and Jesse Lingard, Crook said on TalkSport: “They’ve got a bid in for Onana, the Lille midfielder, they’re confident on that one. So, this is big business for West Ham.”

TIF Thoughts on Onana to West Ham…

The £9m-rated 20-year-old impressed last season for Lille during his 41 appearances across all competitions with three goals and one assist from the defensive midfield position as Les Dogues finished 10th in Ligue 1.

Onana impressed with his defensive capabilities in the heart of midfield, as he ranked in the 94th percentile for tackles with 3.45 per game, the 79th for aerial duels with 2.06, 76th for clearances with 1.67 and in the 75th for interceptions with 2.06 per game, compared to other midfielders in Europe’s top five leagues (FBRef).

The Hammers already have a star midfielder in Declan Rice, but with the doubts over the long-term future of Tomas Soucek, a place beside the England international could be up for grabs for Onana to take next season in the Premier League.
