ExWHUemployee has claimed that Maxwel Cornet is still an option in this summer transfer window for West Ham United.

West Ham are keen on bringing Cornet to the club and are reportedly willing to spend £20m on the winger if that is what it takes to lure him away from Burnley – despite other reports suggesting he has a £17.5m release clause.

Cornet signed for Burnley at the start of last season and went on to have an impressive campaign, becoming the club’s top scorer with nine goals in just 26 Premier League appearances.

Despite West Ham looking like they are going to be pursuing Filip Kostic this summer, insider ExWHUemployee has claimed that Cornet is ‘still an option’ for the Hammers.

Writing on The West Ham Way Patreon page, he said: “Maxwel Cornet (yet another player whose interest we exclusively broke here and then mentioned in numerous updates) is still an option for that left-sided position, with the player having the same left-sided versatility as Kostic. Kostic is the priority for now, but it remains to be seen whether we will still move for Cornet if the Serbian is signed.”

TIF Thoughts on Ex’s comments…

Cornet might be keen to leave Burnley this summer before the transfer window ends as he may feel he should be playing in a higher division after his impressive goalscoring return last term in his debut campaign, but with him still having four years left on his current contract at the club, he might cost the Hammers a significant fee.

Burnley are thought to want every penny of his apparent release clause paid upfront, and having spent plenty of money already, it is unclear whether West Ham would be able to part with a lump sum and acquire their other targets this summer.

Although Cornet has been linked with a move to West Ham, Kostic is another left-winger who has been heavily linked with a move to the club, so it will be interesting to see if Moyes will continue to pursue his interest in the Ivorian if they secure the signing of Kostic.
