Dan Lawless has had his say on Leicester City’s reported valuation on West Ham target Luke Thomas.

The Hammers are interested in the Leicester left-back, but, according to The Daily Mail, the Foxes have slapped a £20 million valuation on the 21-year-old. Given the fact that Thomas made just 21 starts in the Premier League last season, however, West Ham may be wary of matching that price-tag.

Lawless, of West Ham Fan TV, offered his verdict on the valuation, taking to Twitter to say: “This is absolutely ridiculous, £2m maybe but at £20m you’re taking the p***. We need a left-back who is actually an upgrade on Cresswell.”

Lawless has a point, too. If West Ham are to bring in a new left-back, then bringing in one that can instantly challenge Cresswell must be the priority. The current Hammers left-back managed to record seven assists last season, and was a consistent threat going forward for West Ham. Whether Thomas could replicate that impact remains to be seen, with just one assist last season.

TIF Thoughts on Thomas…

It is worth noting that Thomas is only 21, and, therefore, has plenty of time to kick on. Perhaps that’s what Leicester are thinking with their reported valuation. The last thing they’ll want to do is sell the left-back for a cut price, before watching him hit his potential, and become worth double the price they received.

Either way, whatever West Ham decide to do, they’ll have to act fast if they want their squad to be ready for the opening day of the Premier League season. Their first game of the season, which is against champions Manchester City, takes place in just a matter of weeks.
