Tottenham Hotspur’s Croatian international Ivan Perišic is likely to become a big part of Antonio Conte’s side this season.

That is according to Dean Jones who was speaking to This is Futbol about the Lilywhites’ summer business so far.

The 33-year-old put pen to paper at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in May, following the expiration of his contract at Serie A side Inter Milan.

Perišic has previously played under current manager Conte, during a spell in which Inter won their first Serie A title since 2010.

The 113-time Croatia international spent the majority of last season playing at left wing-back, which is presumably where he will be utilised in this Spurs team this season.

And Jones believes that the former Borussia Dortmund man is going to play a big part in Spurs’ success this season.

“You’ve already seen them bring in Perišic on one side, and he’s going to challenge, even if he doesn’t start the season, he’s going to become a big part of that Tottenham team.”

TIF Thoughts on Jones’ comments

We agree with Jones and believe that Perišic would have been a signing that Conte would have backed Daniel Levy to sign, after having already worked with the versatile Croatian before.

Compatriot Dejan Lovren once described the Spurs man as a “top-quality player” suggesting that the experienced wide-man has the respect of his former teammates.

And we think that it will be interesting to see how Perišic adapts to life in the Premier League, though we have full confidence that he will be an important and consistent performer for Conte’s side both domestically and in the Champions League this season.
