Journalist Tom Barclay has claimed that there are some people who believe Djed Spence moving to Tottenham Hotspur is a deal that will get done – though the clubs remain short on an agreement over a fee, contrary to reports.
There were reports stating that Tottenham Hotspur were in advanced talks over the signing of Djed Spence, with the fee supposedly being in the region of £16m plus add-ons, but he has returned to parent club Middlesbrough and no deal has been confirmed as yet.
Spence featured 46 times in all competitions last season for Nottingham Forest, where he spent the season on loan. The 21-year-old played a key role in Forest’s promotion-winning campaign and was named to the Championship Team of the Season.
Although Spurs have been heavily linked with a move for Spence, Barclay spoke to GiveMeSport and claimed that the club are ‘pretty adamant’ that no deal has been agreed.
He said: “There have been mixed messages on this one. I understand it’s not as far as people have suggested.
“Some people have been suggesting it’s a done deal and there is a medical.
“It does feel like this is going to eventually end up with Djed Spence at Tottenham, so I get that, but Spurs are pretty adamant that no agreements have been reached,” Barclay said.

Spurs have already acquired four players this summer, and Conte is not looking like he is going to stop there as it is looking likely that Spence will become his fifth signing of the window.
Right wing-back was a role shared by Emerson Royal and Matt Doherty last season, and with the latter starting just nine times in the Premier League and Emerson not being in the best form – having had the 14th-highest average player rating at the club (as per SofaScore), Spence could arguably come in and cement his place in the starting XI.
Spence is just 21 years old, so he could be part of the long-term future of the club should he join, but there seems to be a hold-up in the deal which is causing a delay, so if terms can’t be agreed, Spurs might have to look elsewhere.
