Journalist Michael Bridge has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur might opt to keep Sergio Reguilon at the club despite bringing in Ivan Perisic.

According to reports, Reguilon could be one of the players shown the door this summer in order to allow Antonio Conte to begin his rebuild at the club by bringing in some new talent.

Conte has already made four new signings this summer – one of them being Ivan Perisic, who primarily operates as a left-wing back. And with Spurs already having Ryan Sessegnon and Reguilon in this position, one of them might leave ahead of next season.

However, whilst speaking with GiveMeSport, Bridge claimed that Conte might want to keep Reguilon at the club and push new signing Perisic forward to an attacking position.

He said: “I think it all depends on outgoings. I think they need to get rid of Ndombele, Lo Celso, one of Royal or [Matt] Doherty, one of Sessegnon or Reguilon, and they’re not going to get rid of Sessegnon.

“Someone said to me earlier and made a good point, they might keep Reguilon and push Perisic forward. So, there’s options, but I think Spurs need to look at outgoings a little bit now as well.”

TIF Thoughts on Bridge’s comments…

Reguilon started just 22 times last season for Spurs in the Premier League after he shared the left wing-back role with Sessegnon, who Conte opted for on several occasions over the Spanish full-back, particularly towards the end of the season.

However, Conte looked to have resolved any issues in the left wing-back position after he brought in Perisic at the start of the transfer window, but given that Bridge has claimed that Reguilon might feature at wing-back, with Perisic operating higher up the pitch in more attacking areas, it will be interesting to see how they line up in the new season and whether the Spaniard remains in north London.

I hated when we bought Sessingone, and to be honest he’s not done enough for me to be the first choice in that position.. I have liked Reggy though from the start.. I hope he can reclaim his form, and yes I absolutely would love it if he stayed.
