Journalist Jacque Talbot has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur could win the race to sign Lucas Paqueta this summer.

There have been reports from Football.London stating that Spurs are monitoring the progress of Paqueta this summer, but face competition as other Premier League clubs are also interested in him.

Fellow reporter Ben Jacobs has tweeted to claim that Paqueta’s current side, Lyon, have accepted the fact that the Brazilian wants to leave and will allow him to do so, but only if their desired asking price is met – which could be difficult for Spurs to meet because of their spending already this summer, amid interest from the likes of Arsenal and Newcastle United.

With several Premier League clubs being interested in Paqueta, Talbot spoke to GiveMeSport and claimed that it is a deal that could go through for Spurs because they can offer the player Champions League football for next season.

He said: “They missed out on Jesus, who went to Arsenal, so there’s that aspect of it as well. I think Spurs is very possible for Paqueta, especially because they’re in the Champions League as well, so that’s a very, very possible one.”

TIF Thoughts on Talbot’s comments…

Interestingly, Lyon teammate Jerome Boateng had tipped the attacker to become a ‘world star’.

Spurs have already made five new additions to the squad this summer, but none of those players have been creative midfielders, so Paqueta could be a good option for them, as he had 15 goal contributions in 35 Ligue 1 games for Lyon last season, while at just 24 years of age, he could be part of the long-term future at the club.

With Spurs finishing fourth in the Premier League last season, this might put them above their rivals Arsenal in terms of attracting players, and with Paqueta having not played in the Champions League before, he might opt for a move to the white side of north London, due to the opportunity that they can offer him of playing in the luxurious competition.
