Journalist Alasdair Gold has revealed that Tottenham Hotspur are hoping to sign another defender as well as Clement Lenglet.

It looks as though the Premier League club are in the market for a couple of new centre-backs this summer, if the latest claims are to be believed.

Indeed, Tottenham are all but set to sign Lenglet from Barcelona – with transfer guru Fabrizio Romano giving it the ‘here we go’ treatment – but Spurs won’t be stopping there.

According to Gold, with Joe Rodon’s expected departure, Antonio Conte and co will be seeking out a second central defensive signing before the transfer window slams shut.

When speaking about the matter on his YouTube channel, the journalist explained: “I still believe there’ll be a second centre-back coming in because of Joe Rodon’s expected departure; hopefully on loan.

“There’ll be another one, it’ll just be interesting to see kind of where they fit into that back three. Because the one good thing definitely about a loan [for Lenglet] is it allows you to push money towards other areas.”

TIF thoughts on Joe Rodon, Clement Lenglet and Spurs…

While Gold seems to want Rodon to only be loaned out, the exact nature of his future remains unclear, with the Evening Standard recently stating that he is ‘pushing’ for a summer exit.

If he is sold, however, that will potentially leave a gap in the heart of defence to fill, and possibly some money to splash out on a replacement.

What’s more, with Lenglet unlikely to join on a permanent transfer, this will leave even more space in the Tottenham defence in the future when the Frenchman returns to Barcelona.

All in all, it certainly would make sense for Spurs to bolster their backline with an extra signing. Still, with key target Alessandro Bastoni seemingly off the market, it remains unclear as to who that new player could be.
