Journalist Dean Jones has claimed that James Maddison would be an ‘amazing’ player for Tottenham Hotspur to land this summer.

According to the Evening Standard, Maddison is now at the top of Tottenham Hotspur‘s wishlist this summer, and the north London side are thought to be seriously considering a move for him ahead of next season.

However, if Spurs were to acquire Maddison this summer, it would not be expected to be for cheap, as he still has two years left on his current contract with Leicester City and the club have previously put a £50m price tag on him if clubs want to simply talk to the player.

With Spurs supposedly making Maddison a priority now this summer, Jones spoke to GiveMeSport and claimed that he would be an superb signing to get through the door.

He said: “It would be an amazing player for them to land just as the season’s getting underway.

“There’s no doubt they like him, they’ve liked him for a long time. I think the problem they’ve got is that James Maddison is Leicester’s best player.”

TIF Thoughts on Jones’ comments…

Although Spurs have brought in five new additions to the club this summer, they are yet to acquire a creative midfielder, and last season, Maddison scored 12 goals whilst adding eight assists in 35 Premier League appearances – so we can see how he could be a great addition for Antonio Conte ahead of next season.

Spurs might have some trouble getting Maddison through the door this summer, as the Foxes might not be keen on letting one of their standout performers leave the club, especially as he still has two years left on his current contract, Brendan Rodgers has also not been able to sign anyone this summer, so if Maddison was to leave, he might want to acquire a replacement before the 25-year-old departs.
