Tottenham Hotspur have been long-term admirers of James Maddison – and he is going into the new campaign with a major point to prove.

This has been suggested by journalist Darren Lewis, who has been speaking about the north London club’s interest in Maddison on the Last Word On Spurs YouTube channel.

Reports have surfaced claiming the Leicester City man is a player who Spurs have on their radar this summer as they target an attacking midfielder.

It is believed Maddison is a player who the Foxes would listen to offers for this summer, with their financial issues preventing them from dealing in the market.

And Lewis believes the 25-year-old would arrive at Spurs and provide instant quality to Antonio Conte’s squad with a point to prove to Gareth Southgate.

He said: “I know James Maddison is a player that the club have liked for a very long time. He would bring you quality, absolutely. And he would have a point to prove as well, because I think he’s been overlooked at international level.”

TIF Thoughts on Lewis’ comments…

We have to agree with Lewis as we feel Maddison could provide a huge boost to Conte’s options for the new season, having shown his quality throughout his time with the Foxes.

Would Maddison start for Spurs?

Yes

Yes

No

No

Maddison shone last season in a struggling Leicester side with 12 goals and eight assists in the Premier League alone, as well as netting three times in the Europa Conference League (via Transfermarkt).

No Spurs midfielder was able to get anywhere near Maddison’s goal tally last season, and with the World Cup looming, he will surely have fire in his belly to avoid being snubbed again by Southgate.
