Journalist Alex Crook has given Tottenham Hotspur a boost regarding their pursuit of Djed Spence in the summer transfer window.
There were recent reports stating Tottenham were on the verge of signing Djed Spence this summer, with the fee set to be agreed at around £20m, including add-ons – though there appears to have been little progress within the last two weeks.
Spence, who Jamie O’Hara says has ‘everything’, was impressive whilst on loan with Nottingham Forest last season, as he featured 46 times in all competitions and was pivotal in their promotion to the Premier League via the play-offs, while he was also named in the Championship Team of the Season.
Despite the talks of Spence joining Spurs taking longer than the north London club might have wanted, Crook spoke to GiveMeSport and claimed that Spurs believe they remain in a strong position to sign him this summer as their competitors have already found replacements.
He said: “There’s a bit of a stand-off because Tottenham have got their price and Middlesbrough got theirs.
“But I think Tottenham think they’re in a strong position, because if you look at the other teams, Brentford were looking and have signed Aaron Hickey and Nottingham Forest have announced Neco Williams, so they don’t want him anymore.”

Spurs have already made five signings this summer, and it does not look like Antonio Conte is slowing down there, as Spence could be the sixth signing of the window. The Italian was clearly not happy with the squad last season, as he has improved several areas of the pitch with his new additions.
The right-wing back slot last season was occupied by Matt Doherty and Emerson Royal, and neither of them were able to cement a place in the starting XI, so Conte might be hoping that Spence can come in and be a starter straight away and for the long-term future, as he is just 21 years old.
