Journalist Dean Jones has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur defender Japhet Tanganga could consider leaving if a Premier League side came in for him.

According to The Athletic, Tottenham defender Tanganga is on the radar of newly promoted Bournemouth this summer over a potential move, but they face competition from Serie A, as Milan are also interested in him.

The ‘phenomenal’ defender was an outcast for Spurs last season, as he made just 11 appearances in the Premier League for the north London side whilst featuring a further eight times in other competitions.

Despite not featuring heavily last term for Spurs, Jones spoke to GiveMeSport and claimed he has been told that Tanganga feels like he still has something to prove in the Premier League and would contemplate a move elsewhere.

He said: “They’ve had enquiries from all over Europe about him. I’m told he still feels he has something to prove in the Premier League, he feels he’s good enough to be here, so he would prefer to look at options here.

“We’re seeing Bournemouth and Southampton linked, and if they’re genuine, he would contemplate going to that level of club,” Jones said.

TIF Thoughts on Jones’ comments…

Spurs have wasted no time this summer in terms of bringing new faces through the door, as they have completed five signings, adding up to a total of just under £80m, while they have been heavily linked with Djed Spence, who could well become Antonio Conte’s sixth addition of the window.

Conte has already brought in Clement Lenglet on loan, and if Spence joins as well, this will mean that Tanganga could slip further down the pecking order at the club, so he might either be shown the door or opt to leave himself, in an attempt to get regular first-team football.
