Tottenham Hotspur will not prioritise the signing of a centre-back, even if both Japhet Tanganga and Joe Rodon leave the club this summer.

That is according to transfer insider Dean Jones, who has been speaking to This is Futbol about the club’s summer transfer plans during the transfer window.

Antonio Conte’s side have currently only signed one centre-back this summer, with Barcelona and France international Clément Lenglet signing on a season-long loan at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Meanwhile, according to Gazzetta dello Sport (via Pianeta Milan) Serie A giants AC Milan are in pole position to secure the signature of Japhet Tanganga this summer.

And according to Fabrizio Romano, Joe Rodon is set to sign for Rennes on loan this season, with the Ligue 1 side having a £16.8m buy option on the centre-back at the end of the loan.

Jones believes that the club won’t panic to bring in another centre-back despite seemingly losing two of Conte’s centre-back options this summer, and the Lilywhites could look to resolve the issue as late as the January transfer window.

He said: “I don’t think it would be a massive panic to get that [the centre-back area] fixed, because at the moment, neither of them are going to feature heavily at all.

“I think that they feel that they’ve got players that they can rotate to fix emergencies, if you will.

“The season pauses in November, so we haven’t got that many games before the January transfer window.

“So I think Tottenham feel that that’s an area they’ll be able to fix further down the line if they have to.”

TIF Thoughts on Jones’ comments

We believe that Jones’ comments will slightly concern Spurs fans, who may be concerned with what options they’ll have to step into centre-back, if they suffer an injury crisis in the position.

At the moment, the club would have four out-and-out centre-back options at the club if Tanganga and Rodon were to leave, though Ben Davies’ ability to play on the left-side on centre-half in a three at the back system would pump that number up to five.

We believe that despite the concern Tottenham fans may feel, the club will be able to resolve any crisis at centre-back through squad depth and the club’s academy.

Well then, we wont win anything. We looked terrible at the back in the last 45 mins against Roma!
Romero and Dier look ok but until Davis is fit again we have nobody else at the back. Sanchez on the left is a walking traffic cone, and Lenglet is… The nicest way to describe him is dead wood walking!
