Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are behind Inter in their attempts to land Torino centre-back Gleison Bremer.

The Brazilian looks destined to be playing his football elsewhere this forthcoming season having previously admitted his desire to move on, revealing in an interview with ESPN (via Daily Mail) that he wanted a ‘change’, but his current employers agreed last summer that if he stayed for the year, he could then take the ‘next step’.

Alasdair Gold of Football.london claimed that Spurs were eager to pounce, with manager Antonio Conte looking to add two new centre-backs to his squad, and despite Gold believing that the 25-year-old could be snapped up for as little as £21m, Tuttosport suggested that he would not be leaving for any less than €35m (£29.9m).

Nonetheless, Football Transfers has previously reported that Inter are leading the chase ahead of their city rivals Milan, Spurs and Juventus – with Romano now reinforcing those claims.

He told GiveMeSport: “Bremer, my feeling is still for Inter to be frontrunners. They have an agreement with the player since January, so they’re waiting to complete this negotiation with Torino.

“And so, it’s not easy to find a top centre-back, this is why I think Lenglet could be a very smart solution.”

As alluded to by Romano, the Lilywhites are thought to be in talks with Barcelona’s Clement Lenglet as Conte looks to fill his quota for a left-footed centre-back.

However, despite appearing to be losing out on the ‘incredible’ Bremer – as described by Italian football expert Conor Clancy – CBS journalist Ben Jacobs previously told GMS that Spurs may well continue their search for another centre-half regardless of whether Lenglet joins on a season-long loan.

RB Leipzig’s Josko Gvardiol is another name they have expressed interest in, but the 20-year-old is not for sale, according to reports.

Inter’s own Alessandro Bastoni has also been targeted, but with his agent stating that he is staying put, Lenglet may have to suffice.

So it does appear that Spurs’ centre-back search is hardly going to plan, and this claim on Bremer is just the latest blow which may see Conte move on to yet another target.
