According to insider Dean Jones, Tottenham Hotspur could look to bring in Leicester City star man James Maddison this summer as a luxury signing.
It seems as if Spurs have already completed the essential part of their transfer business after securing Ivan Perisic, Fraser Forster, Richarlison, Clement Lenglet and Yves Bissouma, and look set to complete Djed Spence very soon.
However, according to Jones, the North London outfit could now look to spend the rest of its transfer budget on luxury signings and believes Leicester’s Maddison as Antonio Conte still wants another creative midfielder.
Jones said on the Chasing Green Arrows YouTube channel, “Spurs definitely like him. They’ve got most of their priority work done. Djed Spence is the last piece that they absolutely see as essential in terms of positions.”
“Now they can look for luxury signings and one of those luxuries will be a 10 if you like. That is always what I was told, if we’re gonna [Spurs] do some extra business, lookout end of August we’ll get a luxury player through the door.
“Who knows who it will be. But James Maddison has been on their radar for ages, been linked for ages and he’s definitely a player they like.”
TIF Thoughts on Maddison to Spurs…
The Lilywhites look much improved ahead of next season and adding a player with the talent of Maddison could surely cement them in the top-four and maybe even challenge for the Premier League title.
Last season Maddison sone for the Foxes with an impressive 30 goals and assists in all competitions last season and averaged 2.1 shots, 1.5 key passes, one dribble, and 1.5 long balls per game with 81.4% passing accuracy on 27.2 average passes per game. (Whoscored)
According to his Fbref numbers, Maddison ranked in the 90th percentile for non-penalty goals, 88th for assists and 79th for shot-creating actions compared to other attacking midfielders and wingers across Europe’s top five leagues.
It has been reported that the midlands side could be looking for as much as £50 million for Maddison’s services, which is a lot of money for someone whose contract runs out in 2024. But, if he could be the deciding factor on if Spurs can challenge for the title, it would be a worthy signing.
