Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Tottenham Hotspur is looking to bolster their right-back options ahead of next season with several names on their transfer list, not just Middlesbrough starlet Djed Spence.

One area that Spurs struggled with last season was their wing-back positions as new arrival Emerson Royal did not impress in his maiden season at the club and Matt Doherty suffered a season-ending injury as he found some former under Antonio Conte.

Spence has been a long-term target for the North London outfit and while they are looking at a deal for the 21-year-old, Romano has revealed they also have other targets in mind to sign this summer.

He said on the Fabrizio Romano YouTube channel, “He’s [Paratici] also working for a new right-back, let’s see what happens with Spence from Middlesbrough. He’s not the only name, but he is always a name that is on Tottenham’s list, I will keep you posted.”

TIF Thoughts on Romano’s comments…

After last season’s performances Spurs need to address the right-back position and do what they can to improve their options for their rebuild under Conte. Spence, rated at £7.2m, could be a great addition after his impressive season at Nottingham Forest last season, on loan from Middlesbrough.

He bagged three goals and four assists in all competitions while averaging 1.5 tackles, 1.5 interceptions, 1.4 clearances, one key pass, 1.7 dribbles, and 1.2 long balls per game with 76.1% passing accuracy. (Whoscored)

While signing Spence looks like the priority for Spurs, they would be stupid not to be looking at other viable options, and it seems that is what they are doing. Sky Sports revealed the club is also looking at Lens right-back Jonathan Clauss and Torino’s Wilfried Singo if a deal for Spence cannot be reached.
