Alasdair Gold has claimed that Antonio Conte would have loved when new signing Clement Lenglet dribbled into AS Roma’s box before finding the cross.

The Barcelona loanee was making just his second appearance after coming on at half-time to replace Davinson Sanchez and instantly proved the trait that he can bring to the table – something that Gold recognised.

The football.london journalist took to Twitter to claim that Conte would have loved that particular move:

“Conte will love that attacking move – wide centre-back to his counterpart on the other side. Clement Lenglet shows why he’s been brought in with a dribble and cross into the box where Romero rises highest to head just wide of goal,” he tweeted.

With the Premier League season now closing in, the Spurs manager will hope that a successful pre-season will translate into domestic success, as the North London club look to cause a few upsets at the top of the table.

In pre-season, they’ve had a mixed bag of results, with a 2-1 victory over Rangers among their most impressive result – Jose Mourinho’s Roma inflicting their only defeat.

TIF Thoughts on Clement Lenglet…

Conte will be hoping Lenglet will prove a shrewd addition to his squad. A leading centre-back can often prove to be the difference between nearly men and trophy winners, and Lenglet certainly has trophies to his name. The Frenchman will be among those at Spurs looking to end what has felt like a never-ending trophy drought.

With Ben Davies making his return from injury, it will be interesting to see whether Lenglet is able to quickly mark his spot in Conte’s XI with their curtain-raiser against Southampton next Saturday.

Under a serial winner in Conte, those in North London will hope to start a far more successful era, full of silverware. It will be a tough ask, of course, but signing the likes of Lenglet is a major step towards that.
