Sky Sports reporter and Tottenham Hotspur fan Michael Bridge says he is still expecting Tottenham to sign one more centre-back this summer.

That is despite reports from transfer guru Fabrizio Romano saying that Spurs are closing in on Barcelona defener Clement Lenglet.

The Whites have been extremely active so far this window swooping to sign both Ivan Perisic and Fraser Forster before Yves Bissouma arrived for £30m and the £60m transfer of Richarlison was officially announced on Friday.

However, the spending won’t stop there and Lenglet could be the next through the door with Spurs eyeing a loan deal as reported by GOAL.

Despite the Frenchman’s seemingly imminent move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Bridge is still expecting the director of football Fabio Paratici to target another centre-half.

Speaking on Chris Cowlin’s YouTube channel for a transfer special he said:

(16:25)“It’s someone who Paratici has brought to the table since he’s been there. Look, he’s not Tottenham’s first choice. He’s going to be a squad depth signing. And again, if Conte wants him, that’s enough.
“What I will say, he’s got a fantastic pass on him and although Ben Davis has been brilliant there, this Lenglet really can find a player. So, I don’t know whether Conte seen that in him and expects the left-winger to bomb forward.
“But yeah, Barcelona wants to do the deal. It sounds like Spurs now want to do the deal. Now, I still think Spurs will go on for another centre half. I really do and I think that’ll come down to maybe then Sanchez and/or Rodon possibly moving on.”

TIF Thoughts on Lenglet and Barcelona…

Bridge mentioned perhaps the key word at Spurs this off-season ‘depth’.

Antonio Conte is clearly trying to put together a squad ready for the demands of both the Premier League as well as making a splash in the Champions League this forthcoming year.

His options at centre-back currently include Cristian Romero, Eric Dier and Ben Davis as well as Joe Rodon and Davinson Sanchez.

However, the latter duo’s future could be in doubt with the arrival of Lenglet and when playing three centre-backs Conte is going to need at least another alternative and he may well decide to pursue an upgrade on his fringe options, which would also include Japhet Tanganga, should his budget allow it.
