Daily Express journalist Charlie Gordon has shared the logistics behind a potential deal taking Clement Lenglet to Tottenham this summer.

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has revealed that a move is a the ‘final steps’ between the clubs with Spurs hoping to sign the Frenchman on a season-long loan deal.

A swoop for Lenglet arose after setbacks in the attempts to land Alessandro Bastoni of Inter Milan and RB Leipzig’s Josko Gvardiol.

Sky Sports reporter and Lilywhites fan Michael Bridge noted that he wasn’t Antonio Conte’s first choice for the position of left-sided centre-back when speaking with Chris Cowlin last week (16:25) and now on the same YouTube channel Gordon has revealed the finances involved which makes it an even better deal for the north London club.

He said (14:29): “This is shaping up to be a good deal for Spurs partly because of the wage structure that they’ve negotiated with Barcelona.

“They’re probably going to end up paying £115k-per-week of his £200k-per-week total, with Barcia picking up the rest of the bill.

“But I think the important thing for Spurs with Lenglet is that he’s gonna tick the box of a left-footed centre-back.

“Apparently, they’re just thrashing out the final elements of the deal with Barcelona now. It seems like a matter of time this deal, but it’s not there quite yet.”

TIF Thoughts on Lenglet and Spurs…

Do you expect another CB as well as Lenglet to sign?

Yes

No

Not fully committing to the permanent acquisition of Lenglet is perhaps telling of where the 27-year-old was on Tottenham’s list of targets and by negotiating with Barca to take his wages down from that of the equivalent to Harry Hane is certainly a shrewd move.

He made just seven starts in Catalonia and with CBS journalist Ben Jacobs previously telling GIVEMESPORT that Fabio Paratici may well continue his search for another centre-half regardless of whether Lenglet joins or not, it certainly seems like a smart piece of business by the north Londoners to only be paying just over half of the player’s wages.
