Southampton could be looking to sign another young talent in Levi Colwill this summer, it has been claimed.

According to a recent report in The Guardian, the Chelsea defender could be set for a move and is wanted by a number of Premier League clubs.

The story claims that Colwill now wants regular football after an ‘impressive loan’ at Huddersfield Town last season, and so the likes of Leicester City and Southampton have been linked.

Noted insider ExWHUemployee, speaking on The Transfer Show podcast, suggested that the Saints may want to repeat a similar trick to when they signed Armando Broja and Tino Livramento from the Blues last summer.

The insider said: “Southampton are looking at Levi Colwill, who’s a Chelsea defender, England U21 International – spent the season on loan at Huddersfield last year, apparently did really, really well.

“Southampton have bought players from Chelsea’s academy before and it’s worked out well for them; Broja and Livramento. And so this could be another attempt.”

TIF thoughts on Levi Colwill and Southampton…

Last season, Broja did well enough during his loan spell on the south coast to leave a number of clubs such as West Ham United chasing his signature for a permanent switch this summer.

Elsewhere, Livramento’s fine form in a Saints shirt was referred to as ‘excellent’ by England manager Gareth Southgate (via Fansided).

It’s clear that those two players made the switch to Southampton from Chelsea with great success and so it’s no shock to hear comparisons made amid the current Colwill links.

The move certainly is exciting, especially when former Blues player Paul Canoville claimed the 19-year-old will end up as a better player than Andreas Christensen.

If Saints can pull off this deal, they could well have another gem on their hands next season.
