Journalist Alex Crook has claimed that Moussa Dembele is not someone who is an option for Southampton in this summer transfer window.

There have been reports stating that Premier League outfit Southampton are plotting a summer transfer for Moussa Dembele this summer, with the French forward entering the final year of his current contract at Lyon, so the Saints will be hoping that they can get him on a reduced fee.

Dembele was in fine form for Lyon last season, he featured 30 times for the French side in Ligue 1 and netted an impressive 21 goals whilst also chipping in with four assists.

Armando Broja spent last season on loan with Southampton, and he was in good form after featuring 38 times in all competitions whilst scoring nine times, so Ralph Hasenhuttl might be keen to bring in a forward this summer to fill the void as he has returned to Chelsea.

Despite the reports stating that Southampton are interested in Dembele, Crook spoke to GiveMeSport and claimed that he is not an option for the Saints this summer.

“No, I’m told that he isn’t an option at this stage,” Crook said.

TIF Thoughts on Crook’s comments…

Dembele would be a great option for Southampton if he was to sign for the club this summer, but Crook has claimed that he is not currently on the radar of the Saints, so Hasenhuttl might have other options up his sleeve and Broja who spent last season on loan with the club, is someone who they have been linked with again this summer.

Although Dembele is not an option for Southampton at this stage, he is in the last year of his contract with Lyon, so the French side might be looking to either cash in on him, or offer him a new deal so that he does not leave the club on a free transfer at the end of next season, so if Southampton do come in with a reasonable offer, then they could have a chance at signing him.
