Phil Hay expects to see the majority of Leeds United’s signings starting in the opening game of the season.
Leeds have been undergoing a squad overhaul this summer as they get used to life under someone other than Marcelo Bielsa and there can be no question as to where or not Jesse Marsch is being backed by the Leeds board and Victor Orta.
The Whites have brought in six new signings that could all end up being regular starters for Leeds come the first game of the season because they’ve been brought in early enough to get to grips with the club and Marsch’s tactics.
What Leeds fans can expect to see in the opening game of the season was discussed by Hay on the latest episode of The Phil Hay Show.
(34:15) “There’s obviously a bit of a reinvention going on with Sam Greenwood as well after that appearance at Brentford, more and more feeling that he can play deeper and play almost as a midfielder or a 10 rather than just an out-and-out nine.
Will Leeds sign a new striker?
Yes!
No!
“Although, something tells me and I’m not sure anybody would disagree with this, that when we get to the start of the season, and the game against Wolves, the team will be populated by most of the new signings who’ve come in.”
TIF Thoughts on Leeds’ upcoming season…
After what was a shambles of a season last time out, surely things can’t get any worse for Leeds, as the only way they can is if they don’t avoid the drop and end up getting relegated, however, after some decent early business they are clearly trying to distance themselves from any potential battle.
However, it’s difficult to look beyond the fact Leeds have sold their two best players in one transfer window which isn’t good for any side, especially one that came so close to relegation last season, so it’s safe to say that this season will be one of unknown given the new signings and manager.
Those players need to bed in, hardly a settled team.
