Journalist and presenter Conor McGilligan has claimed that new Nottingham Forest signing Lewis O’Brien may end up mainly as an option for the bench.

So far this summer, Forest have splashed plenty of cash on a number of new signings as they prepare for the Premier League season.

Indeed, the likes of Taiwo Awoniyi, Neco Williams, Moussa Niakhate, Giulian Biancone, Omar Richards, Jesse Lingard, Harry Toffolo have been added to their squad.

However, while speaking on the One Leeds Fan Channel, McGilligan has stated that with so much depth available to Steve Cooper, O’Brien could conceivably be left on the bench this season.

While bemoaning the quality of depth at Leeds United – who were extensively linked with O’Brien – he explained: “People might disagree with this, people might not like this, but Lewis O’Brien’s going to come in and arguably, for Nottingham Forest, he’s going to be on the bench. But that is a good bench option.”

TIF Thoughts on Lewis O’Brien and Nottingham Forest…

In fairness to McGilligan, Forest certainly do have a number of options in the middle of the park, with Ryan Yates, Braian Ojeda, Harry Arter, Cafú, and now Lingard amongst those who could do a job there if needed.

And having yet to play any Premier League football up to this point in his career, it may take some time for O’Brien to adjust to life at a new level as well as a new club.

With that in mind, the 23-year-old may well not be a guaranteed starter for Forest. Even so, O’Brien will no doubt prefer not to be on the bench and will be doing all he can to prove this claim wrong.
