According to The Athletic journalist, Jon Mackenzie Nottingham Forest should be looking to sign Brentford outcast Josh Dasilva this summer to replace Manchester United loanee James Garner, who impressed last season.
Premier League new boys Forest has been busy in the transfer window so far in their quest to survive the drop next season. So far they have bought in Taiwo Awoniyi, Neco Williams, Omar Richards, and Moussa Niakhate to name a few.
However, one position they need to address this summer is the midfield. After losing Garner back to his parent club Manchester United, they need to bring someone in who can recreate his productivity and Mackenzie believes it could be Dasilva.
He said on the Tifo Football YouTube channel, “Forest will need to replace him with a similar profile but bringing in someone who’d be able to step into the starting 11 immediately. So, our pick is Brentford. Josh Dasilva, the 23-year-old has been a really good player for Brentford for a number of years, but he was out with a hip injury for almost the whole of last season.
“As a result, Brentford built their Premier League squad without him, meaning that now alone with the option to buy could be a good way for him to return from injury.
“Dasilva is a good ball carrier and passer and although he doesn’t offer as much defensively as Garner, he will give Forrest more progression through carrying and will arrive in the final third much more than Garner to if you can find full fitness this could be a really good opportunity for both him and Forest.” (1:57)
TIF Thoughts on Dasilva to Forest…
Unfortunately for Dasilva he only managed 10 appearances across all competitions for the Garibaldi Red last season as he suffered a hip injury in February 2021 which kept him out until February 2022.
However, in the 20/21 season, he did make 20 appearances for Brentford in their promotion season and grabbed seven goals and four assists in all competitions before picking up that horrendous injury.
Garner on the other hand picked up four goals and 10 assists across all competitions for them last season and while he was an impressive force for Forest, if Dasilva can get back to his best and stay fit, there is no reason why he cannot be just as good or possible even better next season.
