George Caulkin has claimed on Pod on the Tyne that the appointment of Darren Eales at Newcastle United was key for PIF.

Since their takeover of Newcastle, PIF have made some pretty big decisions to change how the club is run and operates with the likes of Eddie Howe and Dan Ashworth arriving in their respective roles and now they have a new CEO in the form of Eales.

The club brought in the former Atlanta United supremo last week after what has seemingly been a very long and drawn-out process for PIF to find the character and profile for this illustrious position.

Caulkin believes the appointment of Eales is key to Newcastle succeeding under PIF.

He said (27:50) “It’s a massive, massive role. People close to the takeover were saying from day one, Newcastle can’t really develop properly until this appointment comes in because this appointment is the key to all of that stuff.”

TIF Thoughts on the appointment of Eales…

Something that may have perhaps gone unnoticed is that Eales and Ashworth have worked together before when they were both at West Brom, so that should help make both of their transitions into the club smooth as possible.

It’s obvious that Eales is coming into Newcastle to help the club grow, perhaps more commercially and to help ensure that this model of Newcastle becomes sustainable with PIF saying as much following his appointment.

They explained: “He has a deep understanding of the football industry and what it takes to achieve growth and success, and he will be a key member of the club’s leadership team as we look to deliver on the club’s potential on and off the pitch.”
