Dan Cook has been speaking on the HLTCO podcast about Crystal Palace youngster Killian Phillips, who has impressed in pre-season.

It hasn’t been the smoothest of pre-seasons for Palace and Patrick Vieira, with several of their first team players not making the trips across the world for their pre-season tour of Singapore and Australia.

However, when one door closes, another opens, and that has been the case for some young Palace stars who have made the long trip instead – especially 20-year-old Phillips, who has left Cook impressed – as he believes Phillips has taken the opportunity Vieira has handed him this pre-season.

He said: “If you look at Killian Phillips’ opportunity to actually impress against Liverpool, and he’s grasped it with both hands, and I think that in itself under the watchful eye of Patrick Vieira – albeit with Osian Roberts and a number of other members of the coaching staff left behind in south London – it does at least plant a seed in the manager’s head as to whether or not he can look to rely on some of these players across the upcoming campaign.”

Do Palace need to make more signings?

TIF Thoughts on Phillips’ situation at Palace…

Since Vieira arrived at Selhurst Park, he has certainly attempted to bring in younger talent such as Michael Olise and Marc Guehi, so if Phillips has truly impressed the Frenchman, a bigger role could be in the offing this season.

Think you're the biggest Crystal Palace fan? Then who is the club's record signing?

Phillips was only brought to Palace in January from the League of Ireland, and given he’s now at a critical period of his development, he will be hoping that this pre-season has been enough to warrant significant first-team minutes in the Premier League and cup competitions.
