Journalist Ben Jacobs has claimed that Newcastle United have enquired about Dominic Calvert-Lewin in this summer transfer window.

Premier League outfit Newcastle United have been linked with Dominic Calvert-Lewin over a potential move to St James’ Park this summer, and according to MailOnline, the English striker is keen on making a move away from his current club Everton.

Calvert-Lewin had a frustrating season last term for Everton, he was not able to feature regularly due to injuries, so this meant that he ended up the season with 17 appearances in the Premier League, where he scored five times and chipped in with two assists.

Whilst speaking with GiveMeSport, Jacobs claimed that Newcastle have enquired about Calvert-Lewin this summer and they have been put off of Ivan Toney due to the £50 million asking price that Brentford have set for their striker.

“Newcastle have enquired on Dominic Calvert-Lewin, but Everton are reluctant to sell and the 60 million price tag is pretty high.

“Ivan Toney won’t happen unless Brentford significantly drop their valuation. Newcastle already enquired and were put off by the 50 million asking price,” Jacobs said.

TIF Thoughts on Jacobs’ comments…

Calvert-Lewin might have had a disappointing season last term, but the season prior he was in emphatic form for the Toffees when he scored 16 Premier League goals in 33 games, which is what Newcastle will have in the back of their mind if they were to propose a bid for the English forward.

Chris Wood was brought into Newcastle in January after Callum Wilson got injured and was set to miss a lengthy period of games, but the former Burnley man failed to make an impact after finding the back of the net just twice in 17 league games for Newcastle, so Eddie Howe might be keen to break the bank for Calvert-Lewin to get a proven goal scorer in the door.
