According to MailOnline journalist Lee Davey, Youri Tielemans could be open to a move to Newcastle United this summer as the player is looking for a new challenge.

The Magpies have been linked with a number of top players this summer such as Tielemans, who has been linked with a move away from Leicester City this summer, with Newcastle among those interested.

While the most prominent links have concerned Arsenal, Davey believes that the Belgium international would be open to a move to Newcastle and doesn’t believe there is a preferred team that he would want to land at.

He said on the Loaded Mag NUFC YouTube channel: “Another real slow-burner, lots of links, but no real movement. I think this is something that’s affecting Leicester’s transfer window, actually – knowing what’s going to happen with this…

“Tielemans, we know is looking for a deal, he’s into the final 12 months of his contract.

“We know he’s looking for a new challenge elsewhere, I think he would be open to a Newcastle move.

“I don’t think there’s any preferential team for him, but I think he just wants to move on.”

How well do you remember Newcastle's January transfer window? An easy one to start with: where did Newcastle sign Bruno Guimaraes from?

TIF Thoughts on Tielemans to Newcastle…

Newcastle’s quest to challenge the top six of the Premier League will arguably be made a lot easier if they were able to partner star man Bruno Guimaraes with a player of Tielemans’ talents.

Last season, the midfielder impressed with seven goals and five assists across all competitions for Leicester, while averaging 1.5 shots, 1.1 key passes, 2 tackles, 1.6 dribbles and 2.3 long balls per game, with an 84.5% passing accuracy.

Tielemans also ranked in the 94th percentile for total shots, 89th for expected assists, 88th for progressive passes and 85th for shot-creating actions compared to all midfielders in Europe’s top five leagues.

The Belgium international – hailed “top-class” by Brendan Rodgers – could be snapped up for a great price this summer, as it was reported Leicester are looking for just £25m as the player is in the last year of his contract. This price would also let the Magpies spread their money elsewhere while bringing in an elite-level player and feels like a crucial transfer.
