Newcastle United have been handed a fresh blow in their pursuit to find a new forward in this summer’s transfer window.
Speaking on The Done Deal Show, journalist Ben Jacobs has claimed Timo Werner would much prefer a move to Juventus over the reported interest on Tyneside.
There have been suggestions recently stating Newcastle are a side that would be interested in the possibility of bringing Werner to St James’ Park in the coming weeks.
It is believed Eddie Howe is hoping to see a right-winger and a new striker arrive on Tyneside this window, however, as of yet, there have been no attacking players come through the door.
With Howe enduring an underwhelming period in the summer window, it seems as if another forward could seek an alternative move as Hugo Ekitike did.
Jacobs said: “Werner out, though, is looking more and more likely. I know there were links with Newcastle, but I think the player would much prefer Juventus – not just because of the Champions League football, but it’s the right fit and style and culture. It’s good for him professionally and personally as well.”

With the Toon looking for both a striker and a right-winger, Werner could certainly be a player who could prove an interesting addition at St James’ Park.

The German forward has experience in both positions, so if Callum Wilson was able to maintain his fitness, Werner could operate from the right wing.
However, there is an underlying issue which has plagued his time at Stamford Bridge, where a severe lack of goals in one of the league’s best sides has left him reportedly heading for an exit.
In his 89 appearances across all competitions, Werner has scored just 23 goals, so perhaps losing out on him to Juventus would not be the worst thing for Newcastle this summer.
