Ben Jacobs has claimed that Newcastle United have made enquires about the potential summer signing of Youri Tielemans.
According to reports, Newcastle United are the latest side that has shown interest in signing Youri Tielemans this summer, but they face competition from fellow Premier League side Arsenal who are also keen on luring the Belgian midfielder away from Leicester City this summer.
Tielemans has just one year remaining on his current contract with Leicester, so he could be available to buy at a reduced price and according to reports, he is high up on Arsenal’s list this summer but the Gunners seemed to have cooled their interest as no official bid has been made for him.
Despite being high up on Arsenal’s list this summer, Jacobs spoke to GiveMeSport and claimed that Newcastle have also made enquires about signing him and he is one to watch for the Magpies as he has crept firmly onto their radar.
“Tielemans has crept on to their radar, too.
“Dan Ashworth has made enquiries.
“It’s nothing more than that at this stage but it’s one to watch,” Jacobs said.
Do you think Tielemans will sign for Newcastle?
TIF Thoughts on Jacobs’ comments…
With Newcastle supposedly showing interest in signing Tielemans, he could be a great option for Eddie Howe, due to his current contract situation meaning that he will be available at a reduced fee, and with Newcastle already spending nearly £60 million on three players, he could be a cheaper option for what he could add to the squad.
He would come to St James’s Park with bags of experience, at 25 years old, in the four years that he has been with Leicester, he has made 158 appearances in all competitions where he has scored 24 goals and registered 24 assists.
However, Arsenal have also shown interest in the Belgian midfielder, and they can offer Tielemans Europa League football next season, so this might be a deciding factor on where he wants to go next season.
