Newcastle United could be “juggling a few different ideas” in regards to transfer targets this summer.

That is according to Sky Sports’ Keith Downie, who was speaking to This is Futbol about the Magpies’ potential transfer plans this summer.

Eddie Howe has welcomed two new faces to St. James’ Park this summer, in Lille’s Sven Botman, and Burnley goalkeeper Nick Pope, whilst the club have also turned Matt Targett’s loan from Aston Villa into a permanent deal during the transfer window.

The club are still searching for additions in the transfer market, with Bayer Leverkusen winger Moussa Diaby arguably being Newcastle’s most coveted target.

Downie believes that the club aren’t entirely sure what the remainder of the window will hold for them, and believes that their search for additions could get to a point where they decide to stick with what they’ve got.

“If I’m honest, I don’t even know if Newcastle are really sure what they’re going to do at the moment.

“They’re probably juggling a few different ideas and options, and they’re probably having to work their way down a list.

“How far do you go down that list before saying ‘you know what we’ll take that.’

“Or do you just say, actually, we’ll go with what we’ve got.”

TIF Thoughts on Downie’s comments

We believe that Newcastle fans will be concerned to hear that there is a chance they won’t make any more additions in the transfer window this summer.

However, whilst we agree that the club still need new faces on the pitch to get the side competing in the upper echelons of the Premier League table, it must be remembered that this is a Newcastle side (with two new additions) that finished fourth in the Premier League form table from the turn of the year, last season.

Therefore, we believe that whilst it will obviously be a bit underwhelming if the club don’t make any more on-pitch additions, Magpies fans can still feel that their club is heading in the right direction.
