Chris Waugh has claimed on Newcastle Fans TV that everyone within the club knows attacking players have to be signed this summer.

Newcastle United have thus far only been able to bolster their backline with two new defenders arriving as a new goalkeeper, however, given Callum Wilson finished as the club’s top scorer with just eight goals while starting 16 league games, it’s clear where the bigger problem lies.

The Magpies had been in a long and drawn-out pursuit of Hugo Ekitike only for that deal to collapse due to his agents’ demands, so attentions appear to have turned to the likes of Amine Gouiri, Alexander Isak and Moussa Diaby.

It’s not clear who is likely to arrive in attack this summer, but Waugh claims people within the club know something has to change.

“The priority, really, has been to add goals to the squad. Howe said it on and off the record towards the end of last season, it’s something that everyone around the club’s been speaking about.

Would you like Newcastle to sign Isak?

No!

No!

“He is delighted by the business, my understanding, as everyone in and around the club is, but equally, they recognise that there still needs to be more that needs to be done.”

TIF Thoughts on Newcastle’s attacking transfer plans…

It was reported earlier this week by Luke Edwards that Newcastle were considering making a record-breaking move for Isak, although there remained some question marks over the fee that would be required to secure his services and a potential move has since been abandoned by the club.

How well do you remember Newcastle's January transfer window? An easy one to start with: where did Newcastle sign Bruno Guimaraes from?

However, PIF and Newcastle may have to consider that as the window draws to a close and the season gets nearer, they may be forced to just bite the bullet and bring in someone who they may potentially pay over the odds for, but would at the same time, fix a major issue in the squad.
