Newcastle United have both Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Moussa Diaby targeted as the two players they want to bring in most this summer.

This has been suggested by transfer journalist Dean Jones, who has been discussing the Toon’s summer business so far and their plans for the coming weeks on the Ranks FC podcast.

The Magpies have been heavily linked with a move for Everton man Calvert-Lewin, who has been previously valued at around £60m to prise away from Goodison Park.

And Diaby has also been said to be a big target for the Tynesiders, with some reports suggesting Newcastle are looking to make their move for the French winger.

With Newcastle said to be looking to bolster their options in attack, Jones believes these two stars are up there as the two PIF want to bring in.

He said: “Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Moussa Diaby are the two players that Newcastle want in this side for next season. And they’re set on that. If they could get two men in right now, those are the two they’ll go for. I’m not saying that these are the two that will land, because they’re really hard to land. But they’re gonna go for it.”

TIF Thoughts on Jones’ comments…

It still feels as if the Toon’s summer window is yet to get up and running despite a number of smart additions to Eddie Howe’s squad already.

Perhaps this is because they are yet to make a big-money move for a player such as Calvert-Lewin or Diaby, which would certainly attract the attention of the sides towards the top end of the table.

Newcastle’s business has certainly been more impressive since the October takeover, however, the signing of a £50m or £60m player would certainly establish the PIF takeover on Tyneside.
