Newcastle United could move for Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin this summer if the Merseysiders still need to sell due to their financial situation, according to Sky Sports journalist Pete Graves.

Newcastle have improved their squad tremendously so far under their new ownership and it doesn’t look like they are stopping anytime soon after securing Sven Botman from Lille for around £35m.

One player they have been linked with is Everton’s Calvert-Lewin, who has also been linked with Premier League rivals Arsenal, however, it is unclear if the Toffees are willing to sell after losing Richarlison to Tottenham Hotspur.

Graves believes that they could still sign the striker if Everton need to sell due to their troubling financial situation, which means they have to sell before buying any additional players.

He said on the Loaded Mag NUFC YouTube channel: “If Everton’s financial problems are as bad as we’re led to believe and they’re prepared to sell Dominic Calvert-Lewin for a fee that would fit into Newcastle, then he’s one to keep an eye on, I think – at £30m, not £60m.”

How well do you remember Newcastle's January transfer window? An easy one to start with: where did Newcastle sign Bruno Guimaraes from?

TIF Thoughts on Calvert-Lewin to Newcastle United…

While he only managed five goals and two assists in his 18 appearances across all competitions last season, Calvert-Lewin showed how good he can be during the 2020/21 campaign, where he picked up 21 goals and five assists in 39 appearances, while ranking in the 92nd percentile for non-penalty goals and for aerial duels won per game compared to other forwards in the top five leagues.

Unfortunately, the English striker barely featured for Everton last season due to injury problems, but when he has played consistently, he has shown that he is a top-quality forward that would surely help improve the Magpies frontline. However, spending a massive fee would be ludicrous considering his injuries, but if they can pick him up for £30m, that would arguably be a steal for a player of his ability.
