Newcastle United have been urged to make a move for former Juventus midfielder Aaron Ramsey this summer.

This has been suggested by Dean Saunders, who has been speaking about his fellow countryman during his latest appearance on TalkSport.

Earlier this week, it was confirmed that Juventus had terminated the 31-year-old’s contract which had the Welshman earning a reported £400k per week.

Ramsey joined the Serie A giants back in 2019 as a free agent following his departure from Arsenal, however, it has not been a move which has seen him hit his best form.

Over three years in Italy, Ramsey has only managed to provide 12 goal involvements in 69 appearances, yet Saunders wants to see him at Newcastle this summer.

He said: “I’d like to see him at Newcastle. I think Newcastle’s the train you want to jump on. Or [Nottingham] Forest. Steve Cooper, a lot of people don’t realise, is Welsh. He’s been involved with the England camp for a long time, but he’ll know Aaron.”

TIF Thoughts on Saunders’ comments…

With a contract believed to be worth in the region of £400k per week, Newcastle are probably one of the few clubs that could provide Ramsey with a significant deal.

However, we do not think the Toon should be looking to the Welshman this summer given his injury record, which has undoubtedly played a big role in his lack of form over recent years.

Even his recent loan spell with Rangers was plagued by injury issues, so we do not think the midfielder – who’s scored 76 goals across his career – is someone who’d provide the Toon with a boost.

Especially when they’re already dealing with an injured midfielder and a striker who has proven incredibly unreliable as a result of his own injury record.
