The Athletic’s Phil Hay has been speaking about Newcastle United’s interest in Jack Harrison on The Phil Hay Show.
It appears very clear that Newcastle are keen on adding a new winger to their ranks this summer, with the Magpies reportedly holding an interest in Moussa Diaby, Marco Asensio, (as per AS via Sport Witness), and Harrison.
The latter would prove to be an interesting move for Newcastle as he’d arrive Premier League-proven with 25 goal involvements in the top flight while he can also operate on both flanks, which would be a huge plus for Eddie Howe.
Hay, who is the Athletic’s Leeds United reporter, has been speaking about the Magpies’ interest in Harrison.
He said: “Last time I asked, there had been nothing official; there had been no approach from Newcastle, but there’s enough noise up in Newcastle, and certainly, our Newcastle guys think that they do like Harrison – among others – for that position.
Who would you rather Newcastle signed?
Diaby!
Harrison!
“I don’t think it’s a case of he’s first-choice or ‘we’ve got to have him and we’re going to throw everything at him’, but he’s clearly under discussion there, and he does only have two years left on his contract.”
TIF Thoughts on Newcastle’s interest in Harrison…
If Newcastle were able to bring in Harrison, he would be a big upgrade on their current options out wide such as Miguel Almiron and Jacob Murphy, who have posted very poor attacking numbers during their respective careers spent on Tyneside.
However, with reports claiming that it could take a bid in the region of £30m to sign the former Manchester City ace, Newcastle may well feel it is worth spending their money elsewhere, especially considering their other transfer target Diaby is said to be available for £60m.
