Sky Sports’ Dharmesh Sheth has revealed the key decision that Newcastle United are likely to make when it comes to Bayer Leverkusen winger Moussa Diaby.
The Magpies have been linked with a move for the Frenchman all summer without a move ever coming into fruition. The problem has always been the valuation, with Newcastle keen to pay the right price, and not an inflated one as a result of their current status.
Speaking to GiveMeSport, Seth said: “I think they’re also looking at Moussa Diaby, the winger from Bayer Leverkusen. That one looks like it is not going to happen either purely because of valuations.
“And that’s another theme with Newcastle United, just because they are the new cash-rich club in European football, they don’t want to be taken for a ride.
“They will do business in a way that they feel is reasonable. They do not want to be in a position where selling clubs feel that they can put a Newcastle-tax on a transfer fee. So, they’ll be doing their business diligently.”
So, it seems incredible likely that Newcastle will miss out of Diaby this summer, as much as he would improve the side after contributing to 31 goals for Leverkusen in all competitions last season.
TIF Thoughts on Seth’s comments…
From what Seth has said, Newcastle are keen to do business at the right price. That may be difficult, however, as it’s no secret that they’re now one of the richest clubs in world football, and a rich club that needs improvements to reach greater heights. And, with that, naturally, will come a price.
With just a matter of weeks until the Premier League season gets underway, Eddie Howe will want to see the club finish up their business as soon as possible. They may have until the end of the August to complete deals, but the less disruption to Howe’s squad, the better when it comes to getting off to a good start.
