Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Newcastle United has recently ‘inquired’ about Benjamin Sesko.
The young striker has made headlines recently after he scored in a pre-season friendly match for Red Bull Salzburg against Liverpool amid transfer links to Manchester United.
However, it seems as though the player had already caught the eye of those in charge of transfers for the Magpies long before that notable moment.
Indeed, according to Romano – who spoke about the player on the Que Golazo podcast – Newcastle looked into the player ‘a few weeks ago’ but a deal won’t be easy to get done this summer.
The journalist explained: “It is not an easy one also this one because on Sesko there are many clubs [interested].
“For example, Newcastle inquired about him a few weeks ago also. So of course he’s one of the best talents around and many clubs are interested.
“The real point is Salzburg. Because Salzburg’s plan was to sell the player next summer, and is still to sell the player in summer of 2023.”
Should NUFC push the boat out to sign Benjamin Sesko this summer?

TIF thoughts on Benjamin Sesko and Newcastle United…
As Romano makes clear, Newcastle won’t be alone in their pursuit of the striker with ‘many clubs’ – such as Manchester United – keeping tabs on the top talent.
To be fair, even though he is still a teenager, having only turned 19 in May, Sesko scored 1o goals and provided seven assists in all competitions last season for Salzburg. And so, looking at stats like that, it’s not hard to see why some top Premier League clubs are keeping a close eye on his progress.
Sadly, though, despite this recent inquiry from the Magpies, Eddie Howe and co may feel as though it is pointless to follow up on it any further seeing as Sesko’s club have no intention selling him this summer – though he could be a name to keep an eye on in 2023.
